How to Create Breakthrough in Your Life Through Biblical Meditation - 5 Building a Powerful Repertoire
Main Post of the Week #1 (week of Mar2-9)
Prov. 7:1-3 “My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.” NIV
Notice the underlined words. These are all things, not that God does, but you and I do: store up, keep, guard, bind, write. Hold that thought…
As we continue to share on this topic, please allow me freedom to share what the Lord lays on my heart –His strategy for what we are doing. We are not in a hurry, even though our lives have been conditioned to be in one. Frankly, there is much more to discuss regarding Creating Breakthrough in Your Life Through Biblical Meditation-that is if you really want breakthrough. Yes, much more… hopefully you have caught what has already been shared in the previous 4 posts on this topic.
No shortcuts or get rich quick schemes, sorry. We risk losing some of you to other attention grabbers since we are really digging in on this topic. I know that. But, this is a risk we must take.
Here is our promise: take adequate time to consider each post, apply the principles — and BREAKTHROUGH is on its way. Period.
Lots of People Coming from Around the World
Since I can see the traffic coming to the blog and no one else can, I know there are hundreds of you coming. And yes, some of you know that this blog was picked up on Charisma’s website. That’s cool…
Remember, we made a deal – only thing I asked is that you share with others and us. Our commitment to you is that we are not trying to be the most quippy, sensational, easiest read or most clever – however, we promise to labor diligently over every post, that each will carry something into your life by the power of the Spirit. Tell us how we are doing. Love it. Hate it. Receive it. Can’t get it going? Struggling with something… What? Experiencing breakthrough?
Your Comments Make a Real Difference
At this juncture in the series we’d like to hear from you. Not simply for us, but one other. Others could benefit from hearing your thoughts. If you have been giving it a go on any level, please take 30 seconds to make a comment on what is happening in you through this. Engage our growing community of Kingdom-minded believers with your insight or questions and stir the faith of others as you do.
We continue to believe the Lord that He is depositing something precious in you through this series –praying regularly for every single one of you. Really. No kidding.
Now back to the stunningly powerful scripture above (Prov. 7:1-3), underlining what we have been talking about.
- YOU have to write the scripture on your heart
- YOU need to regard the Word as precious
- YOU need to store up his commands within YOU. (Nobody including God, your pastor, your mama, spouse or best friend, can do this for you. But what an incredible opportunity you have, therefore - the ball is in your court with this, not God’s. Awesome. Here is something you and I can do with a guaranteed profound result!)
Building A Powerful Repertoire
This week the Lord impressed me to share more about the repertoire you are building and how to build one. Building a repertoire is not random, but demanding and intentional. The Scriptures you put in your heart are releasing life and the Spirit of God to and through you. Do you sense this yet?
Start with Individual Scriptures and Small Sections Rather than Huge Passages
We are starting with individual Scriptures and small sections for several key reasons:
- They are easier to begin with
- Meditating larger passages with multiple layers of concepts is more advanced. (Starting with those can frustrate you and limit the depth you go.)
- You can cover more subjects and create variety with multiple shorter sections - just don’t try too many at once.
Selecting Scriptures & Building Your Repertoire
- Make sure you grab enough of each Scripture or passage that you don’t take something way out of context
- As you read your Bible during regular devotional, those scriptures that seem to stand out to you – add them to your meditation list. (Yeah, a serious way to advance.)
- You are going to have to do some hunting, studying and reading to find and prepare your list. Do it.
Here’s what mine looks like (this is one of 9 pages) in case you are wondering:
The biggest key to building a repertoire versus randomly chewing on scriptures is that a repertoire is growing. If I were a dancer, how silly would it be for me to learn a couple of fundamentals and then move onto the next steps, forgetting what I previously learned? I would never become very accomplished, would I? I suggest to you that many Christians do this unintentionally all the time, reducing the flow of God’s power through their lives. A repertoire is something that you can draw on anytime; as opposed to something you once learned and have forgotten.
Two things you should be doing
- Building Faith In Fundamental Areas
- Aiming the Word toward situations
Ultimately, YOU need to build YOUR faith in many different areas – things like Authority of the Word, How Much God Loves You, Faith, Diligence, Purity, Health & Healing, God’s Goodness, Armor of God, Grace, The Kingdom of God, Prosperity, Humility, Sacrifice, Serving, Giving, Deliverance, Freedom, Salvation, Protection, on and on and on. I suggest you don’t reach for a pre-digested format, quite yet. You should pick out a few areas and scriptures to get started with and gradually start adding to those as you are able. Review the previous ones from time to time as you keep moving forward. That is important to build you up in general.
Then you should also pick out Scriptures that relate to specific situations that need breakthrough in your life and the lives of others. Meditate on those and begin to aim the Word at those situations in faith.
Do both general faith building and situation specific Bible meditation, not one or the other. All the while, the Word is working on the inside of YOU and changing YOU. And yes, there is a powerful relationship between meditating and declaring which we will get to-don’t worry. Focus on meditating now.

I was searching for breakthrough online because I just can’t seem to shake the fear I have of sitting down and studying hard for this upcoming computer-based test. It seems like the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I feel like family is just saying they’re supporting me, my friends aren’t really going to pray for me, and the ones I asked to pray for me don’t even live anywhere close. I live in a different country as a result of the career path I chose. I have no real Christian friends here. I feel I can’t talk to anyone because my classmates don’t understand Christ and Christianity, so there’s no support there, and I feel at odds talking to people at my church because of the language barrier. I feel like a target at school because I’m a foreigner, and all the foreigners are believed to have loads of money. On the street I feel targeted because of my appearance. I’m obviously not a native. I have a time limit for my studies, and I’m already 9 days behind schedule. I don’t know if I even spent an entire hour studying today. I’ve had problems with concentration and studying for classes ever since I started in this field, so how am I supposed to believe that’s going to change in the short time I have left to study. Ummm, I’m not sure if this is what you meant by a comment, but that’s what’s going on with me currently. :S
Lynne,
I hope you got through this okay! Sorry to be so late in comments but I just saw it.
Great comment.
How are things going now?
